What No One Told You About School and How to Deal With It

Don't you miss the days when homework was just coloring? School is hard, especially when there's a distraction on every step. The social networks, television, your crush and when any of the above come to your mind it's impossible to study. What no one told me about school is well, they didn't tell me anything actually. No one mentioned getting up early or exhausting finals, but some of us found a way to deal with it. No matter who you are, a student or an adult reading this it's never too late to know what are the secrets to acquiring knowledge.

1. Stay organized.
When writing self help articles I always mention this. Organization is the key to everything, peculiarly when it comes to studying. Buy yourself a nice notebook where you can keep notes from class or make it your work-diary. Use your work-diary to write your plans for the following day(and by plans I don't mean ''eat'', ''brush your teeth'' or ''go to Starbucks'').
Circle the exam dates in your calendar, and make daily, weekly and monthly plans. Day plans should look something like "finishing maths". Week and month plans are more like "read a book" or "finish a project"... Leave sticky notes on your work desk that remind you of what you need to finish. That will do, for a start.

2. Be motivated.
Very often, I mention this too. You need to devote, and I can't tell you that checking Twitter every minute, means being devoted. Make yourself do it, and if you fulfill your daily goals reward yourself.

3. Make yourself comfortable
Make a cup of tea and go to bed. (Trust me I know what I'm saying.)Studies showed that students who study in bed make better results than students studying at their work desk. Makes sense that you'll do more work if you're comfortable and warm wrapped up in your blanket.Take your notes from class, turn on Wikipedia and don't use it just to find your homework answers. Use it to learn something.

4. Just do it.
I have this problem very often. I'm sitting on my bed thinking how I should start studying but I only think about it. I don't do it. The only solution is to-just do it. Surprise yourself with a burst of positive energy towards homework. Just get up and do it, without thinking.

5. Timing is important.
We all have a bad habit of finishing homework the night before and never but I mean, never leave it to the last minute. Whatever you can do, do on weekends or do it when you have any spare time. I promise you this is very important if you want to be a good student.

6. Revise, revise and more revise.
Now that you've learned something you just got to revise and believe it or not it's often fun. Your friends are struggling with their homework and all you do is spend 15 minutes revising and you're done. No stress the night before exam and you can finally relax and do what ever you want to do. You finally have spare time.

7. Take short breaks.
Take short breaks but take them at any time you want. Just promise yourself they won't last longer than 15 minutes.

The best way to study is to take 5 minutes in the middle and 15 minutes when done. Let me explain:when you're doing maths take 5 minutes in the middle of doing your homework and when you finish maths and you need to do chemistry take a 15 minute break before you skip to chemistry. It's very efficient and it won't interrupt your daily plans because it's just 5 minutes.

Extra advice:
It's always easier to study when you have cute pens and notebooks so make sure you go shopping and get all you need to be more motivated.
Music always helps, just choose songs that are not too distracting or too loud. Let music be a background while you study.
Read out loud because you'll learn more if you hear yourself saying it. Plus, reading out loud helps developing the part of the brain in charge of speaking, writing and of course reading.
