Easy Sandwich Decorations Your Kids Will Love!
Packing your child's lunch-box has become a standard, everyday
task. There are only so many variations you can put on a sandwich, and
kids tend to get bored of eating the same thing every day. Here are some
amazing ideas on how to pack lunch-boxes your kids can't wait to open!
Smiley Face
You can never go wrong by making smiling faces, animals or cartoons. Making 3D animal faces can easily be done as long as you put in eyes and a nose on a bun using raisins, egg slices or cucumber and carrots cut into shapes.
The ears can be the top half of the bun where you just cut out a triangle in the middle, revealing the smiling face.
Cheesy Picture
For open sandwiches, slightly melt a thick slice of cheese on a slice of bread, just enough so that it will stick to the toppings you put on it to make a picture. Here you can make a face and use avocado for the smile, tomato for the cheeks and cucumber for the eyes, even add some hair on the top using curly lettuce.
Then there is always the simple salami or ham heart in the middle or a flower made from a ketchup centre and Vienna slices placed around it in a circle, adding a green stem and leaves out of thinly sliced cucumber.
Sandwich pizza
Place a thick piece of cheese on a slice of bread. No need for butter as it will make the bread too oily.
Cut up bits of salami, ham, feta and other toppings and sprinkle it over the cheese.
Slice the bread like you would slice a pizza. Separate or space out the slices from each other and grill it in the microwave for about 20 seconds or until the cheese starts melting over the sides.
You can add bits of lettuce or avocado and sprinkle over some salt for extra flavour.
Sandwich roll
Cut off the sides of a slice of bread; roll it out so that it's very flat and really thin.
Spread over a thin layer of margarine & roll up a Vienna sausage with the thin bread, tight enough for the bread to stick to the spread.
On the one side of the sausage, cut into it so that it fans out like a bushy tail. On the other end, cut out small holes for eyes and fill it with raisins or even Marmite.
For the ears and nose, make small holes and put in cherries or cucumber triangles.
Colourful cut-outs
For closed sandwiches, just use one slice brown and the other slice white bread, using cookie cutters, cut out a few identical shapes on each slice and replace them with the other colour bread or fill it with a thick layer of the spread you are using, peanut butter and jam are always good choices. Alternatively, don't fill the shapes; maybe just put ham or a slice of cheese between the slices so that the colour will make the shape stand out better.
