Kids and Teens ( Work On The Skills of Observation and People-Watching! )

Expert Author Daniel Blanchard
My Granddaddy once told me that I needed to work on the skills of observation and people-watching. "Most of us are not observant and are blind to opportunities," he said. In addition, he also said that we could all learn a lot from criminals and police officers!
Why criminals and police officers? Well, criminals stake out their target and take their time to get to know everything about their target's habits and its surroundings. Criminals see opportunities, although illegal opportunities, but regardless they still see opportunities and know the perfect time to act on them. The rest of us should be so lucky as to have this powerful sense of opportunity, timing, and total awareness of our environment... Legally, of course!
Now imagine combining observation with the skill of people-watching that so many police officers have mastered. A professional police officer can watch a group of people and know when something just isn't right. They can spot a person wearing a jacket on a warm summer day. Police officers notice when someone has walked by a store too many times. Officers can sense when someone is staking out a building and thinking about robbing it. Most police officers can read someone's body language and usually know when someone is telling the truth or not.
Now imagine we had an equal ability in the skill of people-watching as police officers... Imagine that we could read people's body language and know when someone was telling us the truth. That would be a helpful skill, wouldn't it? Imagine that we could spot the good apples from the bad apples among our peers and colleagues... Wouldn't this skill help us make wiser choices in whom to befriend, date, marry, or to just plain avoid because they are nothing but trouble waiting to happen? Imagine the power we would have... Imagine the skill we would have... Imagine the high quality of life us ordinary people could create for ourselves if we were just better at people-watching and knowing when something was wrong... or maybe even when something was really right...
Now teens, and even tweens, go learn, lead, and lay the way to a better world for all of us. Practice, become proficient, and work towards eventually mastering the powerful skills and secrets of success in observation and people-watching. And once again, thanks in advance for all that you do, and all that you will do.
