Speaking To Students About Drugs

There are certain conversations that are hard to have in your household. One of those conversations is about having and abusing illegal drugs. Parents should not turn a blind eye to their children, no matter how good their decision making skills may be.

Students, even when taught about drug usage, still partake in alcohol under the legal age. Why? One of the biggest reasons why is because it's legal for a 21 year old to purchase alcohol and someone who is a teenager will more than likely hang out with a 21 year old.

If you are 21 years old or older please pay attention. Do not purchase alcohol for children under the age of 21 under any circumstance. Always remember worse case scenarios because they do happen. The teen that you purchased alcohol for because you were trying to be cool can easily die from alcohol poisoning leaving the person who purchased the alcohol to a minor, liable. This of course differs from state to state.

The best way to avoid these scenarios as a parent is to talk to your children before they attend a party or event with other teens. Experts say that role-playing an exit strategy with your child is one of the best ways to train children. Role-playing helps educate children on ways to respond should they be put in a difficult situation.

Students who work with their parents are more likely to not give into peer pressure. Those same kids will also be the ones to warn others of their decisions.

The only time some students hear about drug prevention is during prevention month at school. This is why it's best for schools to hire a red ribbon speaker who can get a powerful message across to young people.
Other schools focus on providing curriculum for students to work through. In this case, teachers should show red ribbon videos to their students.
