Boys Trash Talk Their Neighbor - Watch What Happens!
The sun was shining gloriously and the sky was a postcard perfect
shade of blue when two teenage boys walked past Leonard's house and
said "this house is so ******* nasty they ought to burn it to the
ground."
I bet they thought no one heard but Larry. I bet they thought that would be the end of their remarks.
Funny thing how you never know who's listening. You never know what impact your words might have on people around you. Yes, the house is run down. Yes, it needs a lot of work. But Larry was sitting on the porch when the boys walked by and he heard what they said. And their words were just plain rude.
Those boys threw a stone at Leonard that day.
But someone else caught it.
For nearly four years Josh has waived across the train yard to Leonard. They have never conversed, but they had a relationship of sorts. Josh was working across the street that day and he heard what the boys said. He took that stone the boys threw at Leonard and decided to do something. He called the local hardware store, got some paint donated, and talked to his friends. Not many wanted to give up their weekend to paint a run down old house. Not many could help. So Josh turned to Facebook just offering to see if anyone wanted to help.
At 7:50 Saturday morning a few
people were there. By 8:15 there were nearly 60. By 10:00am someone counted 95 people. A local family made breakfast burritos for anyone who was hungry. Someone from 200 miles away bought pizza for everyone. Businesses donated paint, food, water, and port-a-johns. People worked in the heat and the dust and the dirt. They moved rotten wood and truck loads of trash and they helped paint and caulk and - it was a mess - and all in the name of helping some stranger get his house fixed up. And they were grinning from ear to ear!
All of the sudden the house that some boys deemed too nasty to stand was the center of attention. Everyone wanted to help.
By the end of the day Larry had the nicest looking house on the block. A week later he'd have a brand new back deck.
Funny thing, how two boys talking smack and making a nasty, ugly comment can cause so much commotion. Funny thing, how one stone which was meant to hurt ended up bringing so much good.
Funny thing, how far the ripples of that one stone would go.
