Crawl, Walk, and Then Run! kids and teens
Crawl, walk and then run! This old famous maxim makes sense when
we're trying something new, right? But how many of us really have the
patience to do it? We know it, but do we really understand it?
We have all heard before that the secret of success is to go slow and steady. This wisdom has been around forever and has passed down for many generations. It is present in all forms of literature including the famous Aesop's fable of The Tortoise and the Hare, and even the Bible with "the race is not to the swift" (Ecclesiastes 9:11).
Since we all know that the race goes to the slow and steady, we need to stop feeling pressured by people who take off running before us. Usually, what happens is that these people tend to find out that they wasted a lot of time and energy running in the wrong direction and are now out of gas and don't have the power to turn back.
Another reason to be content on pacing ourselves is to avoid becoming overwhelmed. Sometimes the completion of a task or a to-do list can seem so far away that we can't see the sense in even starting, let alone finishing.
When we're feeling down like this we need to use the secret weapon! What's the secret weapon?
Well, it's the title of this teen leadership article: Crawl, Walk, and then Run. No matter how tired we are I'm certain that every one of us can at least crawl. After some time we'll noticed that we have made some progress and we'll feel better about ourselves and our abilities.
And once we're feeling better about ourselves it will give us an emotional uplift and a new source of power. Eventually, we'll find ourselves walking, then running, and then passing out some of the other ones that started running before us. Furthermore, we will find ourselves even beating out some of the ones that may have seemed more talented than us at the beginning. It's sort of like the slower tortoise passing out and beating the faster hare all over again, except this time we get to be the story book hero!
Now teens and even tweens, go learn, lead, and lay the way to a better world for all of us. Learn to crawl, walk, and then run. Then teach the rest of us to follow your wise example. And once again, thanks in advance for all that you do, and all that you will do...
