Dinosaurs and Toys: Why They Make the Best Children's Presents
kids and teens
Dinosaurs have always offered something for the imagination, they
come in all different shapes and sizes and range from looking cute to
downright scary. The reality is we only think we know what they looked
like, an expert's best guess, however someone always seems to turn over
another rock to find out something that contradicts our new found belief
and hey presto you have a redesigned dinosaur.
As a child I loved dinosaurs, any film that had them in was a big hit with me and I wasn't alone as the box office takings dictate we need another dinosaur film. 2015 will see Jurassic Park's next adventure which is bound to be a hit and offer another generation of budding Dino fans something to admire. Dinosaurs and films go back as far as... well, not the dinosaurs, but a long way and with that the production of merchandise. Merchandise with these films makes millions, however they aren't original as dinosaur models and gifts have been around as long as... you get the point.
Papo, Bullyland and Safari are, in my opinion, the biggest brands around that produce top quality toy models which are as lifelike as current thinking permits. Each brand has spent considerable time in creating models which we believe look like dinosaurs and yet they are distinguishably different in design and colours, allowing you to choose your favourites.
Which dinosaur is your favourite? - Much debated and always a personal choice, two that naturally stand out are Tyrannosaurs Rex, the King, the meanest Dino around and the lovable Triceratops and its three horns. These days you have to mention the Raptors, famed by Steven Spielberg, with cunning and guile, they had danger written all over them, even if they were closer to the size of a chicken than the modernday films depict.
Model dinosaurs are just the tip of the iceberg as these days you can find anything with a Dino face on, allowing you to fly it, drive it, paint it or just cuddle it, the choice is endless. As a child I always remember owning a Dimetrodon on wheels and although I later found out this Dino was nothing of the sort (as Dimetrodons predated dinosaurs) I began to recognise it was helping me to learn about the planet and life before mankind. An education so to speak and the beginning of a real interest in the natural world.
Dinosaurs don't care if you're a boy or a girl, dinosaurs don't care if you are 3 or 10, there is just something about them that has always captured the imagination and makes you wonder what life was like on this planet before humans existed. From dinosaur models to dinosaur Kits, they are the toys that make you reflect and remember that great sense of imagination and wonder, that basic feeling of being a child. Kids are always going to fall in love with literally a timeless classic and parents are always going to see a sense of education and imagination in what was probably a love in their own childhood.
