Everybody Loves A Good Story!

Everybody Loves A Good Story! kids and teens

Don't you just love a good story? Of course you do! Every one of us loves a good story because they intimately speak to us at our deepest levels. A good story penetrates us all the way down to our inner soul and leaves a lasting impression.

Why are stories so powerful? Well, the most beloved and effective stories tend to find their way to the emotional decision-making center of our brain. This part is called the limbic brain and it is not controlled by language or words. Thus, when asked why we loved a certain story so much, we often struggle to find the words to accurately describe why. In the end, our attempts are futile and we tend to substitute the wrong words for our feelings. But regardless of our inabilities to understand and explain why we love a story so much, we all know when we've heard a great meaningful story.

Hey, think about it this way. We all know that there is such a thing as electricity. And we all know how much electricity has changed our world for the better. But, how many of us can actually explain exactly how electricity works? None of us! That's right, none of us can really explain the intimate inner-workings of the fascinating world of electricity. But, just like a great story... we know electricity works, and we know we all benefit from it, regardless on whether or not we can accurately describe every detail and nuance of it.

So go ahead and learn the art of story-telling even if you can't fully explain why you're doing it, in language or words, and in a way that fully satisfies your friends, family, or co-workers. Just tell them that everybody loves a good story. Trust me, in the end, you'll be glad. Eventually, your friends, family, and co-workers will be impressed with your new found abilities. Through storytelling, you will be able to take a complex concept and break it down to easily managed chunks of information that now make sense to us all.

Now teens and even tweens, go learn, lead, and lay the way to a better world for all of us. Enjoy a good story every once in a while. In addition, use story-telling whenever you can to help improve the world we all live in. And once again, thanks for all that you do, and all that you will do.

Award-Winning Author, Speaker, and Educator-Daniel Blanchard wants you to become a better storyteller. All of us, the storyteller and the story listeners benefit from storytelling, even if we can't explain why. Become that storyteller and make the world a better place.
