Try Even Harder to Read More!

Try Even Harder to Read More!

I once heard a woman say that she kept a book in her car so that she could read at red lights. I initially thought that she was crazy. Why would anybody do that? And isn't that dangerous? As I've grown older and wiser, though, I've come to better understand the hidden success principle behind her madness of reading and driving.

Now I'm not telling you to keep a book, or any other kind of reading material in your car to read at red lights, but what I am saying is to step back and look at the success principle hidden in this women's way of reading and driving. It's the same secret of success that many of my previous teen leadership articles have already talked about... Little things matter in BIG ways! Little things do add up. Doing a little bit everyday equals BIG gains over time.

An example of a simple little thing could be setting your alarm clock 15-minutes earlier each morning to read and enrich your mind with knowledge and possibilities. Reading is a great way to start your day off on a positive note and gain some momentum for what's ahead of you! Come on... It's only a tiny block of 15-minutes. We can all do that, right?

Not a morning person? Well, how about bringing a book with you to bed at night? You're not going to fall asleep as soon as your head hits the pillow anyways. So why not develop a bed time ritual of relaxing your body, feeding your imagination, and giving your mind something positive to think about and then dream about while you sleep? Remember, the mind never stops working. So what is your mind going to be exposed to before going to bed? Fifteen minutes here is doable, right? It's just a little block of time that will add up to something big if you let it.

Now teens, and even tweens, go learn, lead, and lay the way to a better world for all of us. You don't have to keep a book in your car to read at red lights. But you should try even harder than you are right now to read a little bit more, even if you have to get up a little bit earlier, or go to bit a little bit later to squeeze it in. And once again, thanks for all that you do, and all that you will do...
